Mars in Virgo/ Mangala in Kanya Rashi on 26th November, 2013

The situation prior to the transit of Mars in Virgo/ Mangala in Kanya Rashi was as follows- Near Noon on the 26th of November, 2013, Mars/ Maṅgala/ Mangala was found in Gaṅdāṅta/ Gandanta, the junctional region of Leo and Virgo. These are weak areas of conflict and certain parts of New Delhi, India experienced power cuts. The Moon is joined Mars and instances of road-rage and other such were also reported and experienced by people.

Virgo/ KanyāRāśi/ Kanya Rashi is ruled by Budha/ Mercury and Mars and Mercury are inimical to each other. So, at the outset we know that Virgo is an inimical sign for Mars. But this is one facet. Kanyā Rāśi/ Kanya Rashi relates to precision in work and this can usually be further streamlined to indicate professional work or business where the work is being carried on for gains.

Mars becomes exalted in Makara Rāśi/ Rashi Capricorn and this is despite the fact that Mars and the lord of Makara, Śani/ Shani/ Saturn are dire enemies. Mars is exaltedin Capricorn because of all the actions that are to be taken in the realm of Karma and work and the energy required to accomplish these.

Virgo is a trinal sign to Capricorn and supports the significations of the earth signs. Virgo is also the exaltation of Mercury/ Budha and so we have high value placed on precision, efficacy, perfectionism in presentation, quality of language and drafting, documents, banking activities, commerce, and such areas. The cutting logic of Mars and the sharpness of argument suits this signification of Virgo well.

Corollaries to these propositions exists in the domain of Tattwa (say, foundational elements of Creation) and Lokas (say, heavenly realms) but these require discussions at different levels of thought.

We may then say that not looking at more personality oriented aspects of Virgo in the Lagna chart or as related to indices of the self, as far as the work sphere for instance goes, realms where force and sharpness of argument are required and appreciated and things are to be presented crisply without digression will benefit from the transit.

The transit chart is reproduced below for reference-

There are no planetary aspects/ Graha Driṣṭi/ Drishti on Mars at the time of transit but there are important Rāśi Dṛṣti/ Rashi Drishti/ sign aspects from Jupiter/ Gurū/ Guru and Venus/ Śukra/ Shukra, the two Brahmin preceptors indicating knowledge in the spiritual and the material realms.

Jupiter is trying very hard to educate Mars on the real metaphysics of the world and that too sitting in a place where Jupiter has access to all the information in Gemini/Mithuna Rāśi/ Rashi in the Age of Information. This Dwi-Gurū Yoga greatly helps the impulsive Mars not really through didactic sermonising but through circumstance and environment suffused and saturated with knowledge and understanding of human affairs.

This transit ends the Parivartana/ exchange between the Sun and Mars and whatever inputs about power and authority and force had to come have come. Now the time has come for implementation of the inputs using them as propulsion fuel for real performance.

Intellectualism and work areas requiring use of the intellect at a dominant level will be at the forefront and will shine.  Soon Moon will come and join the transit Mars and will indicate the fruition of the Mars transit through the manifestation of the Śaśi-Maṅgala/ Shashi-Mangala Yoga.

A BRIEF LOOK AT THE TWELVE LAGNAS/ ASCENDANTS IN VEDIC ASTROLOGY

People are often curious at the beginning of their astrological quest, to know something of the various facets pertaining to their ‘chart’; in other words, they wish to evaluate the basic propensities pertaining to their Lagnas and their Rashi/ Lagna Kundalis (Kundalis). Also, the Chandra Lagna itself and Gochar furnish other popular areas of curiosity. Lagna is the sign rising on the Eastern horizon at the time of birth and is occupied by a Rāśi (Rashi)/ Vedic sign. The average duration of a sign rising in the Lagna/ Ascendant is two hours and for this reason the twelve Rāśis cover the twenty-four hours duration of the solar day. ( Basic Jyotiṣa principles can be accessed by clicking this link ) Lagna imbues a person with individuality and therefore denotes the self and the personality of the person. It is the first house or Bhāva of the chart and is the commencement point of any horoscopic study. We cannot forget that in all the divisional charts as well there is a Lagna/ asc

Yanavanta/ Annapurna/ Vahana Yoga of Venus and Moon in Scorpio-8th October, 2013

The Yānavaṅta/ Yanavanta/ Annapūrṇā/ Annapurna/ Vāhana/ Vahana Yoga is formed when Venus and Moon/ Śukra and Cañdra/ Shukra and Chandra associate to form a Yoga in the Vedic horoscope; by Vedic horoscope is meant the Rāśi Cakra/ Rashi Chakra and the Varga Chakra as well, the latter being the divisional charts governing specific areas of life such as marriage (Navāmśa/ Navamsha), career (Daśāmśa/ Dashamsha), children (Saptāmśa/ Saptamsha), parents and elders (Dwādaśāmśa/ Dwadashamsha), comforts and luxuries (Ṣodaśāmśa/ Shodashamsha), spirituality and worship (Vimśāmśa/ Vimshamsha), education (Siddhāmśa/ Siddhamsha) etc. Let us consider the immediate meanings of the various terms used to indicate the Yoga formed due to the association of Venus and the Moon. The term Yānavaṅta/ Yanavanta indicates the charioteer or one guiding the vehicle of humanity or a group or individuals. It indicates leadership and the capacity to show the way to the multitudes and to guide and mould their live

A METHODOLOGY FOR VEDIC CHART INTERPRETATION

The following is an attempt to lay down a general method to conduct professional chart analysis. It appears to have worked well for the author in his practice. Notably though, it need not be the best way to interpret charts and the astrologer must find her own way when it comes to developing a structure with which to unravel any given chart. Some of the more general features of interpretation are being omitted for fear of the paper becoming unwieldy but certain crucial aspects of Jyotish interpretation are being explained since these are not very widely used. The author is indebted to the works of Pt. Sanjay Rath, author, scholar and Jyotish Guru of Sri Jagannath Center. It is through assimilating the writings of Pt. Rath that the author has been able to progress from the fundamentals of Jyotish to a somewhat deeper understanding. ARUDHA PADAS: The houses as reckoned from the Lagna/ Ascendant reveal the truth about the native. This is metaphysical reality as distinguished from precipit
