Synoptic Impact of the Lunar Eclipse/ Cañdra Grahaṇa/ Chandra Grahana (25th April, 2013) on Twelve Lagnas/ Ascendants

The Cañdra Grahaṇa/ Chandra Grahana/ Lunar Eclipse of 25th April, 2013 will have long standing influence on the various Lagnas/ Ascendants. The lunar eclipse of 25th April, 2013 has occured in Tulā Rāśi/ Tula Rashi/ Libra and the lunar luminary, the Moon, has been joined Śani/ Shani/ Saturn and Rāhu/ Rahu in that sign.

Before I proceed further to lay down a synoptical view of this occurence we should understand that the Moon indicates the other half of the cosmic royalty and is a very important planet/ Graha. It shows in what manner one's kingdom functions, how one interacts with others and in which capacities, how one's mind works and how the flow of things impacts one, amongst a host of such crucial factors.

Furthermore, Tulā Rāśi/ Tula Rashi or the siderial Libra indicates that the primary focus of influence will be relationships, marriage, partnerships in general, sexuality, markets, companies and labour issues or employer-employee exchanges.

Also, the readers will also do well to appreciate that all these are but general tendencies and as I always stress at various places on this website, these descriptions are the building blocks on which highly individuated and personalised investigations into specific horoscopes are carried out, which are directly diagnostic, advisory and curative keeping the unique fact situation of a consulter in mind.

We cannot lose sight of the fact that as many as three planets have Graha Dṛṣṭi/ Graha Drishti/ planetary aspect (sight) on the transit Moon which is undergoing the eclipse. Furtermore, these aspects come from Meṣa Rāśi/ Mesha Rashi/ Aries where the Sun/ Sūrya/ Ravi is exalted and Maṅgala/ Mangala/ Mars is in its Mūlatṛkoṇa Rāśi/ Moolatrikona Rashi. Venus/ Śukra/ Shukra is also there with an equally strong aspect as that of the Sun and so two dominants strains associated with desire can be noticed. One is focussed on glory and power and the rise in the world-the dictates of the ego but this can be purely spiritual as well or interlaced with the spiritual impulse since it has been a Full Moon, full of Kalā or rays. The second strain of desire is focussed on romance, love, emotions and money.

Fire and independence will win over the need or compulsion to submerge oneself in the other or to live according to the needs of the other because through compliance the other seeks to rise himself or herself. The dross in such relationships and partnerships will be burnt. Grahaṇa/ Grahana/ Eclipse is inherently Kārmic/ Karmic and so if notable developments occur, they will be of great and notable Karmic significance in life.

Fundamentally,  what one can take home from this is that the lunar eclipse can spark of an entirely novel journey of the mind. This is due to the fact that the Moon is overwhelmed by the Karma of the Nodes and can either indicate the culmination of a difficult or positive journey and the commencement of another, depending. The unwelcome son is debilitated and can either furnish information as to the hitherto tumultuous journey of the emotional mind, highly technical and authentic information, or imepede the cognitive process to start a major spiral should such an event be indicated in the horoscope of any given person.

Meṣa/ Mesha/ Aries-

For this Lagna, the lunar eclipse of 25th April, 2013 occurs in the 7th Bhāva/ Bhava/ house and the real challenge will lie in understanding the relationship and marriage. The self is safeguarded due to the fire in the Lagna and the desire of the partner if unreasonable, will not succeed.

Vṛṣabha/ Vrishabha/ Taurus-

Śani/ Shani/ Saturn is transiting the 6th Bhāva/ Bhava from the Lagna which is an excellent transit for this Lagna and especially if it coincides with the Janma Rāśi/ Rashi with the natal Moon placed in the sign. Service will be the area of focus for the Lagna and the Pāka Lagna/ Paka Lagna.

Mithuna/ Gemini-

For this rising sign, the lunar eclipse occurs in the 5th House and can be challenging due to the malefics transiting the Chitta or the consciousness and the mind being here can herald some notable concerns. However, the children may blaze a new path and pave the way for the fulfilment of hopes and aspirations.

Karkaṭa/ Karkata/ Cancer-

For this Lagna, the drama is being enacted in the home-work axis with some pressures showing up at home, arguments ensuing and these sort of things. Work is the way out and if the Karma is such that this avenue is open, then the flux at home can be transcended.

Simha/ Leo-

The effects of the eclipse accrue in a dynamic reference frame with the 3rd and the 9th Bhāvas/ Bhavas from the Lagna coming into play. Initiative and enterprise will be pressured areas but then the Bhāgya Sthāna/ Bhagya Sthana has the exalted Kāraka/ Karaka of the 9th House, the Sun placed here with Mars and so lucky breaks and openings can come through Kārmic fortune.

Kanyā/ Kanya/ Virgo-

Here the commotion is in the family and in finances. Remember, borrowing is never a long term solution to anything.

Tulā/ Tula/ Libra-

One must keep cool as the Moon transits out of the eclipse where the mind has told the self that things are not what they ought to be and an element of despondency has set in. You should utilise the grace of Gurū/ Guru as the Moon moves out and focus away from the perceived excellence of others in this mood of inferiority and confusion which is transient.

Vṛṣcika/ Vrishchika/ Scorpio-

Distancing, giving up, moving away and sexual matters might prompt these people to take recourse to drowning themselves in work which seems incomparably better at this time. Any impulse to indulge in any activity which is less than legitimate should be denied.

Dhanuṣa/ Dhanusha/ Sagittarius-

The world appears to be too much to take and what was anticipated appears distant and far-fetched and so these people might withdraw and inculcate their own personal kingdom which ironically appears imbued with enormous personal power at this time.

Makara/ Capricorn-

Disaster in the organisation, or perceived distress and obstacles in work makes them give it up and go home. This is all the more so since they are Kārmically constructed around the concept of work.

Kumbha/ Aquarius-

Faith appears to them a fairy tale and religion more of an opiate than is usually the case-they look at the doings of fraudulent Babas and imposters and feel will and sex are far more real and authentic.

Mīna/ Meena/ Pisces-

No more insurance and loans, they are thinking, since they appear to attract the undesirable in any case.

A BRIEF LOOK AT THE TWELVE LAGNAS/ ASCENDANTS IN VEDIC ASTROLOGY

People are often curious at the beginning of their astrological quest, to know something of the various facets pertaining to their ‘chart’; in other words, they wish to evaluate the basic propensities pertaining to their Lagnas and their Rashi/ Lagna Kundalis (Kundalis). Also, the Chandra Lagna itself and Gochar furnish other popular areas of curiosity. Lagna is the sign rising on the Eastern horizon at the time of birth and is occupied by a Rāśi (Rashi)/ Vedic sign. The average duration of a sign rising in the Lagna/ Ascendant is two hours and for this reason the twelve Rāśis cover the twenty-four hours duration of the solar day. ( Basic Jyotiṣa principles can be accessed by clicking this link ) Lagna imbues a person with individuality and therefore denotes the self and the personality of the person. It is the first house or Bhāva of the chart and is the commencement point of any horoscopic study. We cannot forget that in all the divisional charts as well there is a Lagna/...

Vedic Astrology: The Charakaraka Replacement and Its Impact

At its deepest core Jyotiṣa is at the driving centre of all Karma. Just like life, if properly appreciated as it must, it has the status of a full-scale on-going project of immense magnitude. Karma and Soul : The Lagna and the Bhavas reckoned from the Lagna in the Rāśi Chakra indicate the physical manifestation of life. In the Varga Chakra the Lagna and the Bhāvas indicate the personality and realities of that specific environment. When we speak of Karma we inevitably speak of the soul as it is the soul which must carry and exhaust the Karma through rebirth. Charakāraka - Matters pertaining to the soul are studied and deciphered through the Charakāraka in Vedic Astrology. The Charakāraka are the temporal significators (Naisargika Kāraka) for various matters at the level of the soul and the Karma. The Charakāraka are decided on the basis of longitude of arc traversed by the planets including minutes and seconds of arc, and sometimes fractions of seconds of arc. The Eight Cha...

Yanavanta/ Annapurna/ Vahana Yoga of Venus and Moon in Scorpio-8th October, 2013

The Yānavaṅta/ Yanavanta/ Annapūrṇā/ Annapurna/ Vāhana/ Vahana Yoga is formed when Venus and Moon/ Śukra and Cañdra/ Shukra and Chandra associate to form a Yoga in the Vedic horoscope; by Vedic horoscope is meant the Rāśi Cakra/ Rashi Chakra and the Varga Chakra as well, the latter being the divisional charts governing specific areas of life such as marriage (Navāmśa/ Navamsha), career (Daśāmśa/ Dashamsha), children (Saptāmśa/ Saptamsha), parents and elders (Dwādaśāmśa/ Dwadashamsha), comforts and luxuries (Ṣodaśāmśa/ Shodashamsha), spirituality and worship (Vimśāmśa/ Vimshamsha), education (Siddhāmśa/ Siddhamsha) etc. Let us consider the immediate meanings of the various terms used to indicate the Yoga formed due to the association of Venus and the Moon. The term Yānavaṅta/ Yanavanta indicates the charioteer or one guiding the vehicle of humanity or a group or individuals. It indicates leadership and the capacity to show the way to the multitudes and to guide and mould their live...
