Maṅgala (Mangala)/ Mars and Śani (Shani)/ Saturn in November, 2011: Altering the Gochara/ transit scenario

People have felt and are going to feel numerous changes in life due to the altered transit positions of crucial planets, Mangal/ Mars from Karkata/ Cancer to Simha/ Leo, and Shani/ Saturn from Kanya/ Virgo to Tula/ Libra in November, 2011.
Mangal has been Neecha/ debilitated in Karkata Rashi/ Cancer and there was a Tattwa/ elemental conflict during that transit due to the fact that Mangal is an Agni Tattwa Graha or a planet with fiery element while Karkata/ Cancer is a water sign.
Mangal’s fire was sought to be doused by the water in Karkata and the water of Karkata was simmering due to the fire of Mangal leading to repressed anger, irritability and a general loss of verve. Mangal is the strength of the Kalapurusha and its debility had sapped people of the strength and initiative to act which comes from Mangal.
Apart from certain combinations where the debility of the malefic Yogakaraka can be a good thing, this was a bad transit for the fiery planet which brought some of its more challenging significations to the fore or made its significations challenging.
Shani in Kanya qualifies as Deva Dosha because this is the *worst* planet for the Kanya Lagna/ Virgo Ascendant. This dubious distinction is granted the Graha because of the purity-impurity imbroglio but that may be at a slight tangent to the subject of this note and we might want to leave it for later.
However, the sojourn of Shani through Kanya also brought this imbroglio of purity-impurity to the fore and several instances would be fresh in the public mind.
Nativities with a dominant Kanya/ Virgo in the horoscope could have suffered issues with digestion and Vata Dosha. Official communications and places such as gardens also would have tended to dry up and fall into a state of disarray. New Delhi, India, for instance is governed by Kanya Rashi/ Virgo, and there were issues such as bomb blasts which happened during this Gochar of the Karmic Graha in the capital of India.
Now, Mangal in Simha/ Leo is much happier as this is the Rashi of Ravi/ the Sun which is a friend of Mangal. Here Mangal has an opportunity to assert its leadership since it is an Agni Tattwa Graha embodying the quality of forthrightness and initiative, not least due to its lordship of Mesha Rashi/ Aries which is the head of the Kalapurusha/ first house of the natural zodiac. Mangal brings sharp logical acumen to the thought process and being the overlord of the Bhu-Loka also aspires for victory and status through the quality of competition.
Shani, on the other hand is going to be exalted in Tula Rashi/ Libra which is the 7th Bhava of the natural zodiac and indicates marriage and relationships and basically desires in general. Shani finds great happiness here since the promise is that Shukra/ Venus in this Rashi will grant him all that lacks and this pleases Shani. The positive qualities of Shani such as hard work and persistence will find greater balance here since Tula is symbolised by a balance. There may be a conflict in the Rashi as to whether the human sentiment prevails or the cold calculation of the marketplace holds sway but these are extraneous to the movement of the planet Shani here.
Shani, the karaka of testing times, pain, exclusion and suffering will be at its most positive and if the Graha is well placed from the Lagna, Arudha Lagna, Chandra and such reference points, then this could be a good transit for such natives. Those involves with business and professions related to Tula can benefit if the overall conditions as stipulated above read together with the standard rules on the subject are complied with. The location and movement of Shani can very broadly be understood as either the significant presence or absence of suffering. A positive Shani can lead to industriousness, hard work, persistence, adherence to tradition and such matters.

Mercury Retrograde in Pisces/ Budha Vakra in Mīna (Meena) Rāśi (Rashi)

Mercury/ Budha is a Chañchala Graha who likes to play, experiment and exchange information. It is also impressionable and its results in horoscopes depend on its associations.

At this time is is retrograde in Pisces/ Vakra in Mīna Rāśi (Meena Rashi). The question is why does Budha get Nīcha (Neecha)/ debilitated in Mīna Rāśi (Meena Rashi). Mīna Rāśi (Meena Rashi) is the Swakṣetra (Swakshetra) / own sign of Gurū/ Jupiter and being the last sign in the zodiac rules emancipation.

Budh is an adolescent planet indicating Kumārāvasthā/ Kumaravastha. It finds its playfulness bereft of a field of play since Mīna Rāśi (Meena Rashi) governs the wisdom of the Mahaṛṣīs/ Maharshis, and there is no scope for playfulness, verbosity and investigation. When Budh's significations have no chance of flowering it feels Nīcha (Neecha) /debilitated. We must note that this is a Graha which feels like it is dying (Maraṇa Kāraka Sthāna/ Marana Karaka Sthana) when placed in the 4th Bhāva/ Bhava from the Lagna since this is the Bhāva/ Bhava of education and children do not like to sit in one place and study.

However,Budh is Vakra/ retrograde in Mīna (Meena)/ Pisces.

When a Graha is Vakra/ retrograde its inner significations are vastly enhanced and it shows its presence with thrice the vigour. It shows a heightened desire to do what it wants to do. Many of us have found ourselves engaging in Mercurial activity during this transit.

But Budha is retrograde in its sign of debility and this opens up the path to making mistakes with writing, speech, communication, websites, papers, academic work, drafting, printing, and such areas. Even so, the activities governed by the planet will not halt but move and proceed slowly with heightened desire.

Budha will aspire to exaltation in Kumārī Rāśi (Kumari Rashi)/Kanyā (Kanya) due to its retrograde motion in its sign of debility. It remains debilitated but wants to be exalted. People may find themselves deeply disappointed with their Mercurial work in the past and hunker down to remedy the situation with some intense and painstaking work with careful attention to detail.

So, is the Gochara good or bad.

Mars in Libra on 14th August, 2012/ Maṅgala (Mangal) Gochara in Tula Rāśi (Rashi)

On 14th of August, 2012 Maṅgala moves to Tulā Rāśi after spending considerable time in Kumārī Rāśi where it was joined Śani for a long time. It joins Śani again in Tulā Rāśi. Relationships will suffer inflexibility.

Maṅgala is far from the best planet for Tulā Rāśi ruling the opposite sign of Meṣa from there. It is opposed to the social and decorum-ruled domain of Tulā. Maṅgala is a rough and ready planet and with Śani it enters into battle there.

It receives the Rāśi Dṛṣṭi or the sign aspect of Gurū and Ketu from Vṛṣabha Rāśi, another sign ruled by Śukra/ Venus and the aspect of Gurū is a great positive for this combination which is happening here.

Maṅgala and Śani can give a warrior Yoga of fearlessness to be found in the horoscopes of army generals and the like. It gives an inflexible will and great rigidity in action. If such attributes are required by natives in any area of life to be gauged from the relevant parts of the horoscope, then this is the time during which to push forth and try and attain those objectives.

Gocara ultimately acts as the postman or the delivery boy and if the Yogas are there to be triggered and the time is right, some people may actually benefit otherwise this is a malefic association in the sign of personal relationships and marriage.

Married couples do not need to be like warriros after all, and nobody needs inflexity of will in a market place.

Saturn and Mars in Virgo/ Śani (Shani) and Maṅgala (Mangala) in Kanyā (Kanya)

Śani/ Saturn has already retrograded back to Kumārī Rāśi/ Kanyā Rāśi/ Virgo, having previously gone ahead to Tulā Rāśi/ Libra. It will remain in Kumārī Rāśi till December, 2012.

Mars has been in Leo and Maṅgala is also moving to Kanyā Rāśi on June 21, 2012. This combination in Gocara/ transit cannot be said to be good in any manner or means. Firstly, Śani and Maṅgala are bitter enemies at the Naisargika level of natural relationships. Even temporally they become completely opposed at the Tātkālika level due to Yuti or conjunction in the same sign. The compound relationship which results is bitterly inimical.

The situation is problematic and difficult because Śani is the worst planet when it comes to Kanyā Rāśi-Kanyā is purity while Śani is impurity. Maṅgala is not much better with its portfolio of the 3rd and 8th Houses from Kanyā and becomes very malefic.

With people having malefics in the nativity in this sign, there will be two malefics transiting this sign over a natal malefic and they need to be quite careful in matters associated with this sign. This applies especially to those with Virgo or Kanyā rising in the ascendant/ Lagna. Kanyā Rāśi is also going through Sāde-Sāti and so for those with the natal Cañdra/ the Moon posited in this sign also this is going to be a very difficult period. The advice is to have protective measures firmly in place.

If the Cañdra Rāśi should coincide with the Lagna Rāśi or with another sensitive Bhāva when reckoned from the Lagna, similar caution is strongly advised.

The intestines come under scrutiny at the physiological level.  The lifestyle choices have to be carefully monitored where this Rāśi is indicating the personal element in the nativity. This Gocara/ transit in the sign may also throw up issues relating to weaknesses in the personality.

There is a strong chance that storms and fires will rage due to the Yoga and valuable property may be destroyed due to this as inimical Grahas and incendiary Tattwa combinations pose this danger.  The trouble is specifically because in fact Śani had gone and enjoyed a little bit of exaltation time in Tulā Rāśi/ Libra and has now had to retrograde back into Kanyā Rāśi/ Virgo. This leads us to revise the dictum 'adding fuel to the fire' to 'adding Vāyu/ wind to the fire' through in fact it is Agni/ fire that had temporally come and joined the wind. Same difference.

Anything in this sign which tends to adversity has to be taken seriously and without potent remedial measures the troubles will simply not abate.

The Retrogression of Mercury/Vakra Budha

Budha is Vakri during July, 2012 and becomes direct only on 8th of August, 2012. There is a lot of confusion about Vakra Grahas. This is because they do not follow the direct path of the luminaries, Ravi and Cañdra, but instead follow the reverse motion of the nodes of the Moon-Rāhu and Ketu. They are known to give unusual results and indicate deep desires from past lives when they are found in a nativity.

However, this paper is about the retrogression of Budha during the month of July, 2012 and the first week of August, 2012. Budha retrograde is known to cause snafus in communications, telephony, internet usage, writing, the spoken and written word and understanding such communication between parties. Therefore, surface transactions, deals, remittances and despatches may be returned because retrogression is backward motion.

Currency notes may be found kept backwards in wallets and storage spaces. Caution may be exercised while backing up the car because it may cause an error in judgment. Posts and courier deliveries may be returned undelivered.

Since the theme is apparent backward motion, some Budha dominated terrain may be reclaimed. It could be an old commerce, a previous client, an old Budha dominated relationship. It could also be backward motion to claim a cure for an ailment or life issue. It could be inward measures to enhance happiness.

Budha is a great natural benefic and when a natural benefic becomes Vakra its Kārakattwa/ significations become very strong and so work requiring research and focus may attain a high degree of excellence.

Ventures may require a high degree of Ceṣṭā Bala or effort but these may give bursts of energetic results when the planet becomes direct. Since efforts are required, it is clear that nothing will come easy during the period of retrogression.

All this has to be read with the fact that Śani though having moved to Tulā Rāśi has been retrograde in Kumārī Rāśi ruled by Budha, and that too in quite ordinary combinations. For one thing it is with Maṅgala, its arch-enemy; for another there is deva Doṣa in Kanyā Rāśi; and the planetary aspect association with Rāhu triggers archaic adversity and old debts. The other thing to note is that when Śani is in Tulā Rāśi it will aaspect Budha with its 10th Bhāva Graha Dṛṣṭi/ planetary aspect and will make the young and impatient Budha work hard for its prizes and games. Rāhu also aspects Budha with Graha Dṛṣṭi from Vṛṣcika/ Āli with its Pañcama Bhāva aspect-be sure that the wrong rationality and the wrong communication could come in except when it pertains to Bhoga and work because Rāhu is a Bhogī Graha. One only needs to ensure that what is being communicated is not false or immoral or intended to mislead. Especially due to the fact that the Daśama Bhāva aspect of
Śani is coming in, communications related to work will require hard application of thought and familiarising oneself with the subject matter of the communication. Likewise for Rāhu. An element of planning may be required in communications in the work sphere.
This is a period of high Budha intensity for the world giving results according to the Karma in a nativity. The intensity can be viewed as the revving up of an engine before the commencement of a race.
