LIFE READING OF THE VEDIC HOROSCOPE

Dear Consulter,
I have noted the queries posed. The queries pertain mostly to your marriage and Upaya/ remedial measures/ Ratna/ gemstones and certain more broad based ones which cover some important areas of the horoscope.
The Lagna/ Ascendant is the first house of the chart and in this case is Mithun/ Gemini with the Lagna Lord Budh posited therein. This can give a basically strong physical constitution and resistance to illness. The person also strives at least three times harder for everything because the Lagna Lord/ lord of the Ascendant Budh/ Mercury is Vakra/ retrograde. This also forms the Bhadra Yoga which makes the person family oriented and keen to help the relatives. The person also likes to communicate because the Graha/ planet Budh is the Naisargika Karaka/ Natural Significator for communications and governs these areas of life.
Surya/ Sun is placed in the Lagna with Budh the Lagna Lord and forms the Nipuna/ Budh-Aditya Yoga which can give s sharp mind. The Sun in the Lagna can bring a lot of pride and self-respect to the personality and the person is a leader and well-respected among her peers.
To record the other placements in the Rashi Chakra, Venus/ Shukra and Rahu, the North Node of the Moon are in the 2nd Bhava from the Lagna while Mangal/ Mars and Moon/ Chandra are in the 12th Bhava from the Lagna. Ketu, the South Node of the Moon is in the 8th Bhava from the Lagna. Guru/ Jupiter and Shani/ Saturn are in the 4th Bhava from the Lagna.
As far as the Ratna/ Gemstones go, since the Lagna Lord Budh is placed with Surya and is aspected by Shani with Graha Drishti/ planetary aspect to the Lagna, emerald/ Panna is a good choice to safeguard health, overall life environments and success. The thinking prowess shown by the Yoga of Surya and Budh in the Lagna is further explained by the Yoga/ conjunction of the 5th Lord Venus and the 9th Lord Rahu. We must understand that the Rashi Chakra is the overall manifestation at the physical level and the 5th Bhava of the Rashi Chakra shows the creative and applied intelligence of the person.
Since the 5th Bhava from the Lagna is vacant, the lord Venus is analyzed. It is placed with the hedonistic and free-thinking Rahu showing that your thought processes will be beyond narrow boundaries and the thoughts can span cultures and other countries as well. Such people are gifted researchers and also flourish with their intellectual work in research and/ or foreign oriented professions or enterprises.
The Naisargika Karaka/ Natural Significator for any activity rules the activity and also the mental experience that comes from the activity. Guru/ Jupiter is the Naisargika Karaka/ Natural Significator for intelligence and the Dhi Shakti. It rules the power of Vivek/ discrimination. The Graha is placed with Shani forming Brahma Yoga and you would always be keen to get to the bottom of things in the world and to get to the root of their existence and basis. The 5th Bhava is the Karaka Bhava and Ketu is placed in the 5th Bhava from Guru. This again shows unconventional and unique intellectual processes.
The major remedial measures are required for Dosha and Shrapa in the horoscopes. There is no Tithi Dosha in the horoscope and when we look to Shrapa we only find the affliction to Budh as discussed. The Shrapa is formed when a naturally benefic planet is either joined or aspected by two or more malefic planets. Budh is a natural benefic and is joined the naturally malefic Surya/ Sun and is also aspected by Shani with Graha Drishti from the 4th Bhava from the Lagna. Budh is also retrograde. The curse will not be lifted easily because of the retrogression; however the act in the past life which invited the curse was not done with a bad intention as the affliction occurs in the Lagna, which is a Kendra Bhava or a pillar of life indicating the Self.
The effect of the curse is on health and rationality, communications, relatives and friends. Hurt to self-respect and pride and sorrow will come from these areas. Since the 8th Lord Shani is involved, there is Nija Dosha and the results will have to be experiences by the self. Since Surya rules the 3rd Bhava from the Lagna, short travels and desires will not fructify easily.
The main problem emerges from the father or father-figures as the 9th Lord Shani indicating the father is aspecting the Lagna with Graha Drishti and the Naisargika Karaka/ Natural Significator for the father, Surya, is also a part of the Shrapa. Therefore the Shrapa is to be remedied. Usually we approach the lord of the Bhava where the Shrapa occurs but here Budh is the lord of the Lagna involved with the Shrapa and cannot help with the alleviation of the suffering.
The next step is to look to the Karaka of the Bhava. The Karaka for the Lagna is Surya but this Graha is also involved with the curse and so we must look to the Devata associated with the Lagna. For the Lagna we must chant the Gayatri as given in the Rig Veda:

‘Tat Savitur Varenyam Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi
Dhiyoyoh Na Pracho Dayat’
Please note that the ‘Om Bhur Bhuva Swaha’ is missing and is not to be chanted, you should do One Mala of the Gayatri as given and life will be much better and more glorious with the blessings of the Sun God. One Mala contains 108 repetitions and no special Mala is required. The Mantra can be done on the fingers also.
You have to be careful about your feelings in personal life as your emotions may mislead you into making wrong choices because Shukra, the Graha ruling relationships is placed with Rahu in the 2nd Bhava from the Lagna. The other area of interest is that Chandra is placed in exaltation in the 12th Bhava from the Lagna and is joined the 6th and 11th Lord Mangal. This can give a fondness for luxury and good things of life but also irritability in the mind and a quick anger.

(Note-Readers can see the analysis of the various factors which has been undertaken in order to establish a direct correlation between experience and the Kārmic map, so that remedial action and the best courses of action may then be adopted.)
More importantly, Mangal is the Graha farthest advanced by degrees and is thus the Atmakaraka for the horoscopes governing the soul. The Atmakaraka having become Mars one has to be peaceful and avoid anger and irritability because the birth has occurred for these lessons to be learnt.
For a young person like you, the Arudha Padas have to be evaluated because these are the external and visible features of life as they emerge; in other words, the Arudha Padas belong to the societal and financial world of Maya. Just as the Lagna shows the source pool for the life and personality of the person, the Arudha Lagna is the external and Mayik counterpart. It shows the personality in the world, the financial and social being as reflected in the events and in those around us. In your chart, the Arudha Lagna is in the 10th House. This indicates that you would have to change your social circle in life and leave many people behind. The first set of friends and acquaintances will not fit with the second image.
As we work more with the horoscope, it is more evident that a big breakthrough could come in a foreign land in the western direction. This is also because Guru and Shani are in the 7th Bhava from the Arudha Lagna, which is the Dwara, or the doorway to the world. Shani has Digbala in the 7th Bhava from the Arudha Lagna and shows that success can come in the western direction.
When either the Lagna Lord is in the 7th Bhava or when the 7th Lord is in the Lagna, the person is very focussed on their desires and what they want in life. Such is the case with your horoscope because the 7th Lord Budh is placed in the Lagna.
The sources of gains and income are seen from the 11th Bhava from the Arudha Lagna and three Grahas influence this Bhava: Ketu is posited here while Mangal and Chandra aspect it with Rashi Drishti. The Yoga of Chandra and Mangal is good for finances and also goes by the name of Shashi-Mangal Yoga. Though this can give some health issues including those related to blood complaints, for material life it is a good Yoga.
Since the Yoga of the Moon and Mars occurs in the 12th Bhava from the Lagna, it may well materialise in a foreign land.
The Navamsha Chakra shows our skills, inner nature, luck and the intervention of God in life. It also gives us the finer picture about our personal life. Here Mesha/ Aries Lagna rises and the Lagna Lord Mars is placed in the 5th Bhava with Shukra, the 7th Lord. This indicates an affectionate nature in personal matters. It also indicates that the person will be fortunate and want to follow the path of Dharma.
It is advised that you should exercise your mind with self-control and pray sincerely in order to safeguard yourself from adverse personal experience due to the Yoga of Shukra and Rahu in the Rashi Chakra and the Yoga of Shukra and Mangal in the 5th Bhava in the Navamsha Chakra. It is also found that Budh is in the 7th Bhava of the Navamsha Chakra and Chandra is in Mithun Amsha in the 3rd Bhava of the Navamsha Chakra in Trikona/ trines from Budh. These all point towards the need for restraint and meditation as far as relationships and personal life are concerned. Let us return to the Rashi Chakra for some time.
Just as the Arudha Lagna is in the 10th Bhava, the Upapada Lagna which is the manifest personality is in the 4th Bhava from the Lagna which is the 7th Bhava from the Arudha Lagna. You would only truly emerge as an independent, functioning person when you get married. The Upapada Lagna is in the 4th Bhava but houses the 8th Lord Shani of transformation and the Badhak lord Guru, both indicating that a change of residence and/ or country will precede the marriage and once again your social circle will change.
This social circle will then continue and persist.
However, at the present time, Shani is transiting Kanya Rashi where the natal Upapada Lagna is placed and so this is not a good time for marriage. In such a situation Shani tends to bring separation rather than unity. However, Guru is aspecting the 2nd Bhava from the Upapada Lagna with Rashi Drishti since Guru is in Kumbha Rashi at the present time. Therefore even in pressured circumstances for this reason or that, the marriages which occur will be guaranteed to last.
This change in location is also linked to the marriage because the 7th Lord of the chart, Guru, indicating marriage and the spouse is placed in the Upapada Lagna in the 4th Bhava from the Lagna Bhava. The overall picture that emerges in personal life is that prior to marriage due to emotional errors some experiences will come as Karma but then the marriage appears to be quite auspicious.
The 10th Bhava is the Karma Bhava and is related to the profession of the native. Guru is the 10th Lord also and indicates that settling down and professional rise would be linked. Varahamihira, in his Brihat Jataka, advises us to study the 10th Bhava, and the lord from the Lagna, Sun and the Moon respectively in order to divine the influences on work.
Saturn is the 10th Lord from the Moon and is joined Guru in the 4th Bhava from the Lagna. Since the Chandra Graha indicates the social support in life, the 10th Lord Saturn indicates the social support coming in the profession. This is again joined the same focal area of the Guru-Shani Yoga in the 4th Bhava from the Lagna. Likewise, Guru is the 10th Lord from the Sun and again links back to the 4th Bhava from the Lagna for professional rise. You should look for managerial and consulting work due to the prominence of Guru and Shani in these realms.
This is also pointed out by the fact that Rahu, the Graha indicating the foreign connections etc. has become the Amatyakaraka in the horoscope and is joined Shukra, the Karaka for corporate life. Therefore you should strive to work in these areas.
We must now use the dynamic aspects of the horoscopic analysis which is done by way of the Dasha systems. The Vimshottari Dasha scheme has been stated by Parashara to be universally applicable to all Jataka.
The Vimshottari Dasha sequence for your horoscope is given below for your reference:
Vimshottari Dasha:
Maha Dashas:
Moon: 1974-02-11 - 1984-02-12
Mars: 1984-02-12 - 1991-02-11
Rah: 1991-02-11 - 2009-02-11
Jup: 2009-02-11 - 2025-02-11
Sat: 2025-02-11 - 2044-02-12
Merc: 2044-02-12 - 2061-02-11
Ket: 2061-02-11 - 2068-02-12
Ven: 2068-02-12 - 2088-02-12
Sun: 2088-02-12 - 2094-02-12
We can readily see that the Guru Mahadasha is running at the present time which will be a good period emotionally, socially and otherwise as the Graha is involved with the crucial Yoga with Shani in the 4th Bhava from the Lagna. All through the formative years you have been running the Rahu Mahadasha which breed anxiety, delusion and lack of peace and as stated the Rahu Graha is joined Shukra in the 2nd Bhava from the Lagna leading to some adverse experiences in personal life as well. All this is a matter of the past.
This you can readily see as now you have approached a Brahmin for insights through the Jyotir Vidya which is always a significant step in life. These are the blessings of Jupiter coming. The Antardasha sequence in the Guru Mahadasha is given below:
Vimsottari Dasa:
Jup MD: 2009-02-11 - 2025-02-11
Antardasas in this MD:
Jup: 2009-02-11 - 2011-04-01
Sat: 2011-04-01 - 2013-10-16
Merc: 2013-10-16 - 2016-01-19
Ket: 2016-01-19 - 2016-12-26
Ven: 2016-12-26 - 2019-08-28
Sun: 2019-08-28 - 2020-06-13
Moon: 2020-06-13 - 2021-10-16
Mars: 2021-10-16 - 2022-09-22
Rah: 2022-09-22 - 2025-02-11
Now, this Guru Antardasha period is very interesting because Guru is the 7th Lord of the Rashi Chakra and the Mahadasha and Antardasha is both of the Guru Graha, furthermore, Guru is placed in the Upapada Lagna in the Rashi Chakra and it has Argala on the 7th Lord in the Navamsha Chakra. Argala means intervention and has been taught by Maharshi Parashara in the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra.
If any good proposals come and anything is possible till May 2, 2010 you must ensure that all efforts are made for the marriage because the blessings of Guru will be there to the maximum as stated previously in the analysis.
But this Mahadasha is very auspicious for bringing the best results regarding personal and professional life for all the reasons as aforesaid. While Rahu makes one lose the path, Guru brings perspective, peace and grace to life and so you would be much happier during these 16 years that have begun pertaining to the Jupiter Mahadasha in the Vimshottari Dasha scheme.
The Dashamsha Chakra is judged for the finer details regarding the professional life of the native. In the D-10/ Dashamsha Chakra Dhanu/ Sagittarius Lagna rises with an exalted Ketu in the Lagna and an exalted Rahu in the 7th Bhava. A strong Venus is also placed in the 6th Bhava of service in the Dashamsha Chakra in Vrishabh/ Taurus Rashi. All through the working period which fell in the Rahu Mahadasha (refer to the tabular Mahadasha sequence above in the Vimshottari Dasha scheme) you would have been seized with the desire for independent work and wanting to start something of your own rather than to work for someone.
In fact, even apart from the Mahadasha/ Antardasha sequence in the Vimshottari Dasha scheme, there is a larger issue to be evaluated in working life. As stated the Lagna rising in the Dashamsha Chakra is Dhanu, and the lord Guru is placed in the 8th Bhava of the Dashamsha Chakra in exaltation. Inwardly, you might not want to work at all, and may have been working only because it is something to be done. The 8th Lord Moon is also there. Since Guru Mahadasha has started these issues will come to the fore and you will probably take a break from working life as indicated by the very powerful 8th Bhava in the Dashamsha Chakra indicating retirement/ long leave/ break from work/ total change of work profile etc. The 7th and 10th Lord Mercury is also placed there showing that it is only the impulse for own work and enterprise than can make you think of work again after you leave it.
Even otherwise, the superiors and bosses in service would have been very inflexible, rigid and difficult to deal with because the Yoga of Mangal and Shani is there in the 9th Bhava from the Lagna in the Dashamsha Chakra showing the boss and the superior. Mangal and Shani are arch-enemies and their conjunction brings very difficult superiors. The 9th Lord is Sun and is debilitated in the 11th House. On the one hand the superiors would have had very fragile egos but if you tolerated it, it would have given a handsome pay packet. Maharshi Jaimini is quite clear in his Sutra that both exalted and debilitated planets bring a lot of gains. The difference is when the Graha is Neecha/ debilitated especially in a Artha/ finance related Varga Chakra such as the Dashamsha Chakra it can bring lot of gains in humble or difficult work circumstances.
Now, generally when Chandra is placed in Dusthana, the Vimshottari Dasha does not give accurate results because it is based on the Moon itself. However, here we can rely on the Vimshottari Dasha because the Moon is joined the Atmakaraka Mangal in the Rashi Chakra in the 12th House. It is to be remembered that the Atmakaraka is the king of the horoscope.
When the 7th Lord is placed in the Lagna, Parashara said that the Dwisaptati Sama Dasha is applicable. This is one of the conditional Nakshatra Dashas of Parashara among the forty off Nakshatra based Dasha systems but regrettably in modern India, the Jyotishis do not use them due to ignorance.
The Mahadasha sequence in the Dwisaptati Sama Dasha scheme is given below:
Dwisaptati Sama dasha (applicable if Lagna lord is in 7th or 7th lord is in Lagna):
Maha Dashas:
Jup: 1974-11-10 - 1983-11-11
Ven: 1983-11-11 - 1992-11-10
Sat: 1992-11-10 - 2001-11-10
Rah: 2001-11-10 - 2010-11-11
Sun: 2010-11-11 - 2019-11-11
Moon: 2019-11-11 - 2028-11-10
Mars: 2028-11-10 - 2037-11-11
Merc: 2037-11-11 - 2046-11-11
The various Dasha systems have to be intelligently applied in order to properly gauge the impact of the Grahas. As stated in this work at an earlier stage, the Dwisaptati Sama Dasha applies in charts where goals and desires form the focus of the life. The Surya Mahadasha is about to commence and Surya is in Lagna. The real authority and personality development which has not come thus far due to the Graha Shrapa on the benefic Budh as well as the adverse Dasha operating will not come to the fore. This will make the intelligence flower and if the remedial measures are done, in the Dashamsha Chakra the professional gains will also come, as well as the personal life developments.
The later part is being stated because apart from the better known Graha Drishti which indicates the desire of the Grahas, there is also the Rashi Drishti/ sign aspect and the dual/ mutable signs all aspect each other. The Lagna in the Rashi Chakra is mutable and it aspects the 4th Bhava with Rashi Drishti aiding the personal development as to marriage and the relocation in this scheme as well.
Some hard work and efforts will be required due to the retrogression of the Lagna Lord Budh but if this is done then the more fortunate Yogas such as the Sunapha Yoga formed by the placement of the benefic Budh in the 2nd Bhava from the Moon will also yield the results of wealth and prosperity especially because Budh is placed in Mithun Rashi which is its own sign.
We have to read Jyotish documents very slowly because a lot of compressed knowledge is contained therein. We have to specifically look for the findings which are painstakingly derived from the analysis of the Yogas and other facets contained in the charts. The whole meaning of all the knowledge applied from the classical literature cannot become evident Arudha Lagna at once. Therefore take your time and read the work again and again till the finer points become clearer and clearer.
Further fine-tuning and closer look at specific Hindu years is done through the evaluation of the Hindu Tithi Pravesha Chakra which is the annual horoscope containing all the features of natal horoscopy and helps us to plan our year better based on the Graha influences.
When we look at the Charakaraka or the temporal indicators, we find that at birth you had more attachment towards the mother since the Lagna is in Ganesha Amsha. However with the development of thinking you became very loving towards elders and parents even though as pointed out before the suffering from the side of the father was destined. This loving and genuine relationship is because the Lagna Lord Budh is in Ashwini Kumar Amsha in the D-12 chart which relates to the parents and elders.
The mother has also reciprocated the love but some destined suffering has come from the father’s side in some form or the other because of the 9th Lord being in Ahi Amsha in the Dwadashamsha Chakra/ D-12 chart.
As for the spouse he can be found at a distance of short travel because the Upapada Lagna in the Rashi Chakra is placed in a dual sign showing middle distance travel in the country. It is another thing that she may move to a more distant place after marriage due to the Yogas in the 4th Bhava. The Lagna of the spouse should be either of Kanya/ Virgo, Makar/ Capricorn, Vrishabh/ Taurus, Meena/ Pisces, or Mithun/ Gemini.
The other thing is that there is Manglik Dosha formed due to the placement of Mangal in the 12th Bhava from the Lagna and so the spouse also must have a malefic planet in the 12th Bhava to counter and cancel the Mangal Dosha which can bring an element of incompatibility in personal life if not addressed.
The Narayan Dasha sequence indicates the blessings of Narayana and this is a Dasha of Rashi rather than the Graha. The Mahadasha sequence in the Narayan Dasha scheme is given below:
Narayan Dasha of D-1 chart (a versatile Phalita Rashi dasha):

It may be seen from the Mahadasha sequence above that from June this year the Vrishabh/ Taurus Mahadasha is going to start. This Dasha Rashi contains the Atmakaraka Moon and also the Shashi-Mangal Yoga. The Mahadasha of the Rashi containing the Atmakaraka is a period of great achievements and so will be the case in this Mahadasha. This is also because the exalted Moon is in Dasha Rashi as well. New social structures and contacts will make their appearance.
The horoscope appears to be poised on the anvil of many changes. With this I trust I have covered some of the crucial areas of the horoscope and trust you will find it relevant and useful to your circumstances.
Best wishes,
Anurag Sharma.

A BRIEF LOOK AT THE TWELVE LAGNAS/ ASCENDANTS IN VEDIC ASTROLOGY

People are often curious at the beginning of their astrological quest, to know something of the various facets pertaining to their ‘chart’; in other words, they wish to evaluate the basic propensities pertaining to their Lagnas and their Rashi/ Lagna Kundalis (Kundalis). Also, the Chandra Lagna itself and Gochar furnish other popular areas of curiosity. Lagna is the sign rising on the Eastern horizon at the time of birth and is occupied by a Rāśi (Rashi)/ Vedic sign. The average duration of a sign rising in the Lagna/ Ascendant is two hours and for this reason the twelve Rāśis cover the twenty-four hours duration of the solar day. ( Basic Jyotiṣa principles can be accessed by clicking this link ) Lagna imbues a person with individuality and therefore denotes the self and the personality of the person. It is the first house or Bhāva of the chart and is the commencement point of any horoscopic study. We cannot forget that in all the divisional charts as well there is a Lagna/ asc

A METHODOLOGY FOR VEDIC CHART INTERPRETATION

The following is an attempt to lay down a general method to conduct professional chart analysis. It appears to have worked well for the author in his practice. Notably though, it need not be the best way to interpret charts and the astrologer must find her own way when it comes to developing a structure with which to unravel any given chart. Some of the more general features of interpretation are being omitted for fear of the paper becoming unwieldy but certain crucial aspects of Jyotish interpretation are being explained since these are not very widely used. The author is indebted to the works of Pt. Sanjay Rath, author, scholar and Jyotish Guru of Sri Jagannath Center. It is through assimilating the writings of Pt. Rath that the author has been able to progress from the fundamentals of Jyotish to a somewhat deeper understanding. ARUDHA PADAS: The houses as reckoned from the Lagna/ Ascendant reveal the truth about the native. This is metaphysical reality as distinguished from precipit

Yanavanta/ Annapurna/ Vahana Yoga of Venus and Moon in Scorpio-8th October, 2013

The Yānavaṅta/ Yanavanta/ Annapūrṇā/ Annapurna/ Vāhana/ Vahana Yoga is formed when Venus and Moon/ Śukra and Cañdra/ Shukra and Chandra associate to form a Yoga in the Vedic horoscope; by Vedic horoscope is meant the Rāśi Cakra/ Rashi Chakra and the Varga Chakra as well, the latter being the divisional charts governing specific areas of life such as marriage (Navāmśa/ Navamsha), career (Daśāmśa/ Dashamsha), children (Saptāmśa/ Saptamsha), parents and elders (Dwādaśāmśa/ Dwadashamsha), comforts and luxuries (Ṣodaśāmśa/ Shodashamsha), spirituality and worship (Vimśāmśa/ Vimshamsha), education (Siddhāmśa/ Siddhamsha) etc. Let us consider the immediate meanings of the various terms used to indicate the Yoga formed due to the association of Venus and the Moon. The term Yānavaṅta/ Yanavanta indicates the charioteer or one guiding the vehicle of humanity or a group or individuals. It indicates leadership and the capacity to show the way to the multitudes and to guide and mould their live
