Venus in Scorpio/ Shukra in Vrishchika Rashi-October, 2013

Transit Venus/ Śukra/ Shukra has moved to Scorpio from its own sign Libra. Even though the planet had been in its own sign it had been conjoined Śani and Rāhu/ Shani and Rahu, two dire natural malefics. These two malefics have been afflicting Libra and with it relationships, marriage and sexuality. India has witnessed the Nirbhaya gangrape incident and with it a sudden upsurge in the reporting of sexual crimes. This reached such proportions that a Criminal Law Amendment Bill had to be passed. When Venus joined the malefics, the significator became similarly afflicted.

Now Venus has moved out of Libra into Scorpio. The focus of our relationships, love, attraction, romance and aesthetics has altered. Whereas we are more active with Venus in Libra about these significations, Vṛṣcika/ Vrishchika/ Scorpio is slower and deeper. Here we are delving deep into our notions of beauty and coming to the fundamentals.

Since we are going deeper we are also coming to complex areas in our inner world of sexuality and connection, to secrets, and to a resolving of Karma. It is in depths that secrets flourish. Scorpio is a secretive and mysterious sign and represents realms where life is out of control. This is the most dominant place where Karma can manifest in all areas ruled by Venus. Additionally we can always see the Bhāva/ Bhava placement of the sign in any nativity and see the results. This Bhāva/ Bhava placement has to be judged from the Lagna of the Rāśi/ Rashi Chakra.

What has the greatest impact on this transit apart from the intrinsic nature of Scorpio is that there are no full planetary aspects on transit Venus/ Śukra/ Shukra save that of Rāhu/ Rahu/ the North Node of the Moon, and that of Mars/  Maṅgala/ Mangala/Mars.

One may consider the aspect of Rahu as the 12th House aspect or the 2nd House aspect depending on the perspective.

As if Scorpio was not enough by itself, Rāhu/ Rahu the master of intrigue can really spark off some Karma and that too in a concealed, compulsive manner. Some secret impulses of the native or the other might compel him to act. These are not easy to understand and since the aspect comes from Libra, we can venture that it is founded in desire, with roots in rebirth, possibilities of a dark, non-luminous path, attraction, and maybe even more commonplace ambitions which we should not dwell upon.

With the simultaneous influences on Libra, Venus and Scorpio not letting up but only shifting focus the strange events in personal relations and matters of intimacy continue and for those with Karma of this sort in the horoscope there is need for caution. Otherwise, this is just a transit and planets are always moving about. Some influence us based on our Karma in a positive or negative way and others do not. Transits are like emails. Those which are intended for us, subject lines revealing matters of realistic importance, are relevant. Some are intended for us but are superfluous and others find themselves in the Junk folder. So, if something should not intrinsically appeal to you, this something being in the realm of the many significations of the planet Venus, feel free to relegate it to the Junk folder of your life. You do not have to open it because sometimes, rarely, it might be infected with a virus.

We must also not forget the strong Graha Dṛṣṭi/ Drishti of the planet Mars from Leo, a sign that he finds comfortable. Mars is an aggressive, impetuous energy and the Śukra-Maṅgala/ Shukra Mangala Yoga is well-known to instigate a particular attitude in these matters. Rāhu/ Rahu and Mars influencing Venus in this manner make for heady and compelling stimuli.

Both Leo and Scorpio, the more relevant signs in the operation of Mars are either friendly or the own sign of Mars and so the malefic is not basically detrimental in this situation-it is only required to be channelled appropriately.

On the positive side, there is equal opportunity. If someone has faced trials and tests in the realm of Karma relating to Venus then this is the time for heady ambition and to try and set things right. There is enough hedonism in the air to try and break the shackles and revel in the pleasures of beauty and companionship. This also extends to matters functionally represented by the planet in the nativity.

As always, a proper evaluation of the horoscope is at a much higher level and is a completely different astrological exercise. Transits can only be considered peripheral when we think of such acutely personalised work for consulters where every minute nuance of  their lives is studied with so much attention and precision. A BRIEF LOOK AT THE TWELVE LAGNAS/ ASCENDANTS IN VEDIC ASTROLOGY

People are often curious at the beginning of their astrological quest, to know something of the various facets pertaining to their ‘chart’; in other words, they wish to evaluate the basic propensities pertaining to their Lagnas and their Rashi/ Lagna Kundalis (Kundalis). Also, the Chandra Lagna itself and Gochar furnish other popular areas of curiosity. Lagna is the sign rising on the Eastern horizon at the time of birth and is occupied by a Rāśi (Rashi)/ Vedic sign. The average duration of a sign rising in the Lagna/ Ascendant is two hours and for this reason the twelve Rāśis cover the twenty-four hours duration of the solar day. ( Basic Jyotiṣa principles can be accessed by clicking this link ) Lagna imbues a person with individuality and therefore denotes the self and the personality of the person. It is the first house or Bhāva of the chart and is the commencement point of any horoscopic study. We cannot forget that in all the divisional charts as well there is a Lagna/ asc

A METHODOLOGY FOR VEDIC CHART INTERPRETATION

The following is an attempt to lay down a general method to conduct professional chart analysis. It appears to have worked well for the author in his practice. Notably though, it need not be the best way to interpret charts and the astrologer must find her own way when it comes to developing a structure with which to unravel any given chart. Some of the more general features of interpretation are being omitted for fear of the paper becoming unwieldy but certain crucial aspects of Jyotish interpretation are being explained since these are not very widely used. The author is indebted to the works of Pt. Sanjay Rath, author, scholar and Jyotish Guru of Sri Jagannath Center. It is through assimilating the writings of Pt. Rath that the author has been able to progress from the fundamentals of Jyotish to a somewhat deeper understanding. ARUDHA PADAS: The houses as reckoned from the Lagna/ Ascendant reveal the truth about the native. This is metaphysical reality as distinguished from precipit

Yanavanta/ Annapurna/ Vahana Yoga of Venus and Moon in Scorpio-8th October, 2013

The Yānavaṅta/ Yanavanta/ Annapūrṇā/ Annapurna/ Vāhana/ Vahana Yoga is formed when Venus and Moon/ Śukra and Cañdra/ Shukra and Chandra associate to form a Yoga in the Vedic horoscope; by Vedic horoscope is meant the Rāśi Cakra/ Rashi Chakra and the Varga Chakra as well, the latter being the divisional charts governing specific areas of life such as marriage (Navāmśa/ Navamsha), career (Daśāmśa/ Dashamsha), children (Saptāmśa/ Saptamsha), parents and elders (Dwādaśāmśa/ Dwadashamsha), comforts and luxuries (Ṣodaśāmśa/ Shodashamsha), spirituality and worship (Vimśāmśa/ Vimshamsha), education (Siddhāmśa/ Siddhamsha) etc. Let us consider the immediate meanings of the various terms used to indicate the Yoga formed due to the association of Venus and the Moon. The term Yānavaṅta/ Yanavanta indicates the charioteer or one guiding the vehicle of humanity or a group or individuals. It indicates leadership and the capacity to show the way to the multitudes and to guide and mould their live
