Vedic Astrology and the Ethical Question in 'Faust' and 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'

The theme in Faust and Dorian Gray is literary, while a study of the quest for knowledge and experience can be existential. The point for consideration would then be - Is karma ethical, or capable of having consistent quality. It is like asking if Life itself is ethical. It is quite different from examining whether a given life (the life of person) is ethical or not. Karma is a-ethical.   Life is a-ethical. But different Karmic and life experiences result ‘only’ from ethical difference in past action. So difference in experience results only from difference in action. Can action be controlled to the extent of deciding its ethics categorically, given the heavy component of determinism in Karma, and given the nature of human existence. 'Selling your soul' in literature might equate to abandoning the Ātmakāraka (AK) in the chart. Can the Atmakaraka be abandoned, or is it the texture of the Atmakaraka itself which is leading to categorization by human beings. ...

Vedic Astrology Transit Moon in Cancer on June 20, 2015

A Positive and supportive Vedic yoga is happening in Cancer (Karkata Rashi or Karkaṭa Rāśi) on June 20, 2015 where the two great benefics Jupiter (Guru or Gurū)   and Venus (Shukra or Śukra) are joined the Moon (Chandra or Cañdra) in transit. This Dwi-Guru Yoga- a combination of the yoking of Jupiter and Venus is celebrated for a reason. The name comes from the fact that both Jupiter and Venus are preceptors, albeit of opposite camps. When the two preceptors come together in conjunction or mutual aspect, Dwi - Guru Yoga results. Jupiter governs spiritual and esoteric knowledge. It is very metaphysical and somewhat other-worldly. This is also apparent from the fact that the planet rules the Akasha (Ākāśa) Tattwa or the Ether element amongst the primordial substances. Akasha Tattwa is not visible and is not amenable to the tactile quality. Yet it is the quality which binds all other elements, and binds everything in existence in general. The flower encapsulates this q...

Vedic Astrology and the Business of Living

In our business, which is the business of living, there are things which impede and there are things which further. The impediment is not to be trifled with. It does exist and none of us need to be reminded because we know it. It would be easy to get overpowered by the impediment without even knowing what it is or worse still, that it is. It is equally easy to get cosy with the notion that all is well with the world because sometimes there is apparently nothing to worry about and things appear to be on course all on their own. Both are quite dangerous. But we may not be in either situation but in one which most conscious people find themselves- in the pushes and pulls of the positive and the negative, given above. But we know that the impeding negative is described as such because it is precisely that, and for that reason devastating in its results. It is often a situation of great desperation or total darkness which leads to faith, spirituality. Ther...

Vedic Astrology Forecast for June, 2015

The Vedic astrology forecast for the month of June, 2015 can be made without having to account for too much movement in the planetary positions. Just as we go into June, we find that Venus (Śukra or Shukra) has moved out of Gemini (Mithuna Rāśi-Rashi) and into Cancer (Karkaṭa or Karkata), joining Gurū (Guru or Jupiter) in the exaltation sign of the latter. This itself forms the Dwi-Gurū Yoga as the preceptors of both camps are together. While it is true they will both try in right earnest to have their say, and prevail, they are such great benefics that their impact on human beings is entirely welcome, the tussle notwithstanding. Also, Jupiter in exaltation is likely to prevail which is even better because Venus rules eye-catching significations in our lives, too much of which doesn’t serve any useful purpose. The chart just on the threshold of June is given below-   Cancer is about home and happiness, and learning. It also works very well for recup...

Relationships and marriage in Vedic astrology

Relationships and marriage in Vedic astrology is an important and complex subject. Important, because these are pillars of life and the structure of life is supported by its pillars; complex, because there are many determinants, with which to investigate this life-area. [Exactly how complex they are is made clear when the concerned parties relegate the comforts of theory to the background and enter the stormy seas of hello there.] Relationships in Vedic astrology - Relationships are important in themselves. They are inherently capable of being astrologically distinct from marriage because a relationship may lead to marriage or may not and a marriage may be a meaningful relationship or may not be. Significator (Kāraka or Karaka) for relationships in Vedic astrology - Venus (Śukra or Shukra) is the Naisargika Kāraka/ Natural Significator of relationships both for men and for women. By relationships, as the term is used in this paper, is meant romantic relationshi...

The Subject of Food in Vedic Astrology- Planet Significations, Diets, and Remedial Measures

In this article, the subject of food is correlated with the planets and houses in Vedic astrology, extending amongst other things to dietary significations and methods of prescribing remedial measures involving food. WHY FOOD - Food is necessary for sustenance, in common parlance. As a necessity it is one of the biggest drivers in life. It is essential for the body or the Deha/ Tanu. SIGNIFICATOR OF FOOD - Moon (Cañdra or Chandra) is the Natural Significator or the Naisargika Kāraka for food in general, in Vedic astrology. It is also the Karaka for the mind, social interaction, fame and flow of things. The Moon is so important that it is treated as a Lagna in itself called the Janma Rashi (Jañma Rāśi) or the Chandra (Cañdra) Lagna. DIETARY POLICIES & FOOD BASED REMEDIES IN VEDIC ASTROLOGY - Why should there be any sort of awareness of a food intake policy or plan? If dietary policies are a valid metaphysical organisation, then adherence to...
