‘Applied Vedic Astrology/ Jyotisha’ OR ‘Living With Vedic Astrology’

We all want to know. This quest for knowledge is at the core of human achievement.

We also want to know of our life and humanity and of all that comprises it-there is nothing better or more elevated than Vedic Astrology for this purpose.

Hence the title of this paper-‘Applied Vedic Astrology/ Jyotisha’ Or ‘Living With Vedic Astrology/ Jyotisha’.

The intelligent man ponders his birth and Jyotisha takes him to the Lagna. He considers his own nature and the vast literature of classical Vedic astrology takes him to the Lagna Lord/ Lagneśa/ lord of the Ascendant.

Likewise he wonders about many parts of his life  and all are revealed by the Bhāvas/ Bhavas/ Houses of the Rāśi/ Rashi Chakra and the life environments in various spheres by the Varga Chakra/ divisional charts.

The experience comes from the Naisargika Kāraka/ natural significator which informs the mind of so many intrinsic facets of life. There are numerous custodians of horoscopic real estate and they all assert themselves. When the blessed person becomes aware he can recognise his life and patterns within it.

He wonders as to why things happened when they did and the dynamic aspects of the horoscope come through to him by way of the maturity of the Graha and Bhāvas/ Bhavas and also through the many Daśā/ Dasha systems, rooted in the Nakṣatra/ Nakshatra lordship of the Graha and in the Rāśi/ Rashi/signs as well.

If he has been lucky he knows his blessings and trials in the nativity and thus his life and has immediate understanding of where the conventional positives and negatives are.

He is able to rationalise the events that have transpired through divine irrationality which transcends rationality, including it and assimilating it in the process.

He is able to foresee the future trends of his life and feels warmth and proximity to purpose and identification when the landscape responds with what the esoteric diagrams foretell. He is living an authentic life.

Work is a major part of life in the current times and often questions will arise regarding this. The advisor of the one in proximity or the one in the know casts his mind to the overall promise in the Karma Kṣetra/ Kshetra-sphere of work, and considers the dynamics playing out. He looks at the transits for something conspicuous.

Appearance and reality always require attention together and the Lagna chart and the Ārūḍha Cakra are both viewed along with the planetary positions judged therefrom. The skills and blessings and some higher esoteric factors will be gleaned from the Navāmśa/ Navamsha Chakra/ D-9 chart, one of the most important divisional charts in the nativity.

All these steps identify the core players in the manifestation of Karma in the direction of work leading to an extensive examination of the Daśāmśa/ Dashamsha Chakra/ D-10 chart. Why shall we not assume a very high level of Gurū Kṛpā (Guru Kripa) in the horoscope of the person we have created for the purpose of understanding how astrology plays out in life, whether this is through the excellent placement of Jupiter in the nativity or some other avenue. So, perhaps, while we are not to delve into the D-60 or the Ṣaṣṭiāmśa/ Shashthyamsha chart, maybe in this case the Lagna in the D-60 has been fixed and so the sum total of the past Karma and impetus from the past lives is also clear.

If this is so then it is with a very deep knowledge of the self and life that the person examines the current scenarios and circumstances in work in the Daśāmśa Chakra. He is able to decipher whether he is correctly placed in business or service or contractual or professional work, as the case may be. There are so many intricate details which he knows-how to find if there are some particularly important positives which need to be made full use of in work, attitudes and methods, ways and forms of working and so many other things. Juxtaposition reveals the interconnection and interplay of actions in different parts of life.

There are times when we need to change things and others when we need to change the way we do the same old things and the distinctions can only be derived with such exactitude in this discipline.

Deities and worship of these Devatā/ Devata in Vedic astrology not only at the level of physical manifestation but in different life areas such as career, marriage and even past Karma is fundamental to altering or mitigating that which assails or impedes. When he does this he actively engages not just with existence but that which informs existence and guides it, controls it.

Similarly when he ponders the issue of marriage he is guided by the representative of God, whose dignity and placement in the horoscope reveals the basic promise. He can examine his own attitudes towards the subject and look straight at the qualities he finds most endearing. Ārūḍha/ Arudha Pada immediately tell him manifest details about the one who is meant to follow.

He then gets clear ideas about who is to enter his life as a partner and if someone ventured forth in the past but it did not work out then why not. The tree may be the same but it bears differing fruit from time to time and so through some further techniques he is able to see the specific attributes of the alliance which is on the anvil. He can then identify when these features begin to manifest in reality and can then proceed knowing full well that all is as destined and revealed and it is not some tangential path which has appeared.

The Navāmśa Chakra is the relevant Varga Chakra for this aspect of life and not only the internal details of the partner and the relationship but the life realities of the spouse can be found from here.

There is marriage and there are relationships. Sometimes the twain meet and at others they do not. The person is able to know quite clearly the meaning of different people in life and what Kārmic significance they have.

And then today. I have to do this today-shall I or maybe it is better to hold off a bit and do it after a fortnight. The adept Vedic astrologer is able to become a mirror for Viṣṇu for the person and the latter is able to chart out the best course ahead.

Little Nāḍī/ Nadi rules can be crucial. When we are discussing transits then the movement of the planets relative to an Ārūḍha Pada, and the movement of the Moon especially. The fact that in a wonderful new alliance a young couple ventures out for an acclaimed movie, but the Moon is grossly afflicted in transit and in Vṛṣcika Rāśi/ Vrishchika Rashi. If there are vulnerabilities in the nativity in either case and perhaps if the malefics have created a stressed equilibrium in the sky then this knowledge can safeguard youth from misconceptions like-if we felt so miserable watching such a great movie and after such a great first week, then something is wrong somewhere.

Perspective is a great blessing.

Esoteric India has given the technique of the Tithi Praveśa/ Pravesha Chakra/ annual horoscopy to determine the quality and nature of a year with great precision, the foundational element of the concept coming from Jala/ water/ Tithi. Praśna and various other methods to derive insights furnish a great roadmap with which to proceed.

This is the personal framework in which authentic, classical and traditional Vedic astrology/ Jyotiṣa can be applied to daily life.

The doing in this web of Karma is equally destined but partakes of the quality of positive action and will at some level of things. The best doing is guided Karma (say Jagannātha Drekkāṇa/ Jagannatha Drekkana) and enterprise, battles and attainment upon guidance (Upacaya and specific Bhāvas from the Ārūḍha Lagna).

The other doing is overarching and propitiatory-worship through Maṅtra and Ratna and so on, having learnt the highest truths about the Devatā including those from the Navāmśa Chakra.

Each adept has his own technique for the application of Vedic astrology and when this art is properly applied, it can completely transform life.

A BRIEF LOOK AT THE TWELVE LAGNAS/ ASCENDANTS IN VEDIC ASTROLOGY

People are often curious at the beginning of their astrological quest, to know something of the various facets pertaining to their ‘chart’; in other words, they wish to evaluate the basic propensities pertaining to their Lagnas and their Rashi/ Lagna Kundalis (Kundalis). Also, the Chandra Lagna itself and Gochar furnish other popular areas of curiosity. Lagna is the sign rising on the Eastern horizon at the time of birth and is occupied by a Rāśi (Rashi)/ Vedic sign. The average duration of a sign rising in the Lagna/ Ascendant is two hours and for this reason the twelve Rāśis cover the twenty-four hours duration of the solar day. ( Basic Jyotiṣa principles can be accessed by clicking this link ) Lagna imbues a person with individuality and therefore denotes the self and the personality of the person. It is the first house or Bhāva of the chart and is the commencement point of any horoscopic study. We cannot forget that in all the divisional charts as well there is a Lagna/ asc

Vedic Astrology: The Charakaraka Replacement and Its Impact

At its deepest core Jyotiṣa is at the driving centre of all Karma. Just like life, if properly appreciated as it must, it has the status of a full-scale on-going project of immense magnitude. Karma and Soul : The Lagna and the Bhavas reckoned from the Lagna in the Rāśi Chakra indicate the physical manifestation of life. In the Varga Chakra the Lagna and the Bhāvas indicate the personality and realities of that specific environment. When we speak of Karma we inevitably speak of the soul as it is the soul which must carry and exhaust the Karma through rebirth. Charakāraka - Matters pertaining to the soul are studied and deciphered through the Charakāraka in Vedic Astrology. The Charakāraka are the temporal significators (Naisargika Kāraka) for various matters at the level of the soul and the Karma. The Charakāraka are decided on the basis of longitude of arc traversed by the planets including minutes and seconds of arc, and sometimes fractions of seconds of arc. The Eight Cha

Yanavanta/ Annapurna/ Vahana Yoga of Venus and Moon in Scorpio-8th October, 2013

The Yānavaṅta/ Yanavanta/ Annapūrṇā/ Annapurna/ Vāhana/ Vahana Yoga is formed when Venus and Moon/ Śukra and Cañdra/ Shukra and Chandra associate to form a Yoga in the Vedic horoscope; by Vedic horoscope is meant the Rāśi Cakra/ Rashi Chakra and the Varga Chakra as well, the latter being the divisional charts governing specific areas of life such as marriage (Navāmśa/ Navamsha), career (Daśāmśa/ Dashamsha), children (Saptāmśa/ Saptamsha), parents and elders (Dwādaśāmśa/ Dwadashamsha), comforts and luxuries (Ṣodaśāmśa/ Shodashamsha), spirituality and worship (Vimśāmśa/ Vimshamsha), education (Siddhāmśa/ Siddhamsha) etc. Let us consider the immediate meanings of the various terms used to indicate the Yoga formed due to the association of Venus and the Moon. The term Yānavaṅta/ Yanavanta indicates the charioteer or one guiding the vehicle of humanity or a group or individuals. It indicates leadership and the capacity to show the way to the multitudes and to guide and mould their live
