Mercury/
Budha has turned Vakra/ retrograde in Makara Rāśi/ Rashi/ Capricorn in Vedic
astrology, occasioning this note.
It is in
mutual aspect with Gurū/ Guru/ retrograde in Cancer/ Karkaṭa Rāśi/ Karkata
Rashi. While Jupiter is the teacher or the preceptor, Budha is the student.
Gurū also indicates value systems and its exaltation in Cancer leads to the greatest
benefic giving results of its debilitation sign Capricorn. There may be a fall
from stated position in religion, morality and law or a breach of a legal principle.
The transit
chart illustrating this is given below-
Mercury
denotes the express and particular promise and therefore the retrogression may
lead to breach of promise or contract. This situation persists till February
11, 2015 when Budha turns direct. Ultimately, Budha/ Mercury will give the
results of Cancer during its retrogression which will cure all evil and absorb
all that is malefic.
It is retrograde
and stationed in Capricorn though which is the 10th House of the natural
zodiac and relates to work and organizations and offices and these are the
locations where this will most transpire. Beware the slave-master as Capricorn
is lorded by Śani/ Shani/ Saturn and compulsion may perversely substitute the
contract or promise or understanding.
Makara is a malefic Rāśi and can be very exacting. Coupled with this fact, we ought to note the foundational characteristics of the phenomenon of retrogression which is associated with another, that of Ceṣṭā/ Cheshta Bala- the quality of strength insofar as it pertains to strenuous effort.
In other words, anything new started during this time which partakes of the aforementioned characteristics is liable to be about 11 times more labour and effort intensive than it might appear to be at the outset!
Continuing projects may require triple reviews before the appropriate levels of competence or excellence are attained.

Financial documents
and instruments may suffer infirmity and delay owing to the significations
being governed by Mercury. The station of Jupiter in exaltation illustrates
that despite the fall the ideals or aspirations are the highest and while the
manifestation happens in diametrically opposite settings, the financial
accruals will be virtually identical.
Budha is
under heavy affliction as well as it is aspected by a strong Rāhu/ Rahu from
its Mūlatṛkoṇa Rāśi in Virgo/ Kanya and Mercury also then becomes the
dispositor of Rāhu. Rāhu can both bring in the element of cheating at worst and
ambiguity at best where shadows rule and depending on the Karmā windfalls or
deprivation will be felt. In either event sophistication or sophistry will be
evident or required to tide through this.
Saturn compels
through its 3rd House aspect and might insist on some sort of
unjustified strenuous effort from malefic Scorpio. This also leads to a curse
of Mercury/ Śrāpa more about which may be read on this website elsewhere.
Equally
the past interactions and projects and deals may resurface during this time for
better or for worse and may be dealt with accordingly.
There is Nipuṇa/ Nipuna Yoga formed by the conjunction of Sun/ Sūrya and Budha/ Mercury and there are higher aspects to this transit. Despite the overbearing urgency of the malefics, the transit may precipitate an accurate appraisal of the dexterity and skill sets that have been cultivated by some in the past and therefore can be very valuable for one's own output and its appreciation now and hereafter.
