Makara Sankranti/ Makara Saṅkrāṅti-Sun in Capricorn on 14th January, 2014

Makar Saṅkrāṅti/ Sankranti is the day of ingress of the Sun into the sign of Capricorn/ Makara.

The Punjābī festival of Lohri precedes this by a day.

This is what the transit chart looks like on January 13, 2014, one day prior to the transit of the Sun to Makara Rāśi/ Rashi-

It is a coincidence that the other luminary, Cañdra/ Chandra/ Moon is also on the verge of changing signs, along with the Sun.

Moon has been exalted in Taurus/ Vṛṣabha and there has been a sense of plenty and abundance around. Now, the movement of the Moon to Mithuna Rāśi/ Rashi/ Gemini promises to be equally auspicious where it will join Jupiter and form the Gajakeśarī Yoga.

The dual signs will precipitate the Rāśi Dṛṣti/ Rashi Drishti and the Graha Driṣṭi/ Graha Drishti of not only the two benefic preceptors Venus and Jupiter but also of the Moon and Venus. This is a time for intellectual, material, esoteric and financial abundance. The Annapūrṇā/ Annapurna Yoga confirms that.

Mars/ Maṅgala/ Mangala aspects the three planets discussed above-Jupiter and the Moon with Rāśi Dṛṣti and Venus with both Rāśi Dṛṣti and Graha Driṣṭi. Impetus, logic, energy and Agni comes to the already packed combinations.

The Sun is the Āditya, the giver of resources and when it defines the Rāśis/ Rashis it makes them the storehouses of resources as well. Its movement to Capricorn ushers in real pushes in work.

Resources in work will occupy centre-stage over the next month. Two aspectual changes occur-Sūrya ceases to be aspected by Śani from Tulā releasing pressures on the self and ego and Rāhu/ Rahu starts aspecting the transit Moon over the Saṅkrāṅti degrees as Moon experiences Gemini and brings that stimuli to our minds and our social experience.

Transits of Jupiter, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu in 2025 in Vedic Astrology

Spring and summer of 2025 will be marked by notable shifts in transit of the slow-moving planets, Guru, Shani and Rahu-Ketu.  Important transits have the capacity to modify the results of the Dasha. In Vedic astrology/ Jyotisha, therefore, the two phenomena have to be examined together.  Jupiter/ Guru will move to Mithuna Rashi/ Gemini on May 14, 2025 and immediately thereafter the Nodes of the Moon, Rahu and Ketu also transit to Kumbha/ Aquarius and Simha/ Leo respectively. Shani/ Saturn will move to Meena Rashi/ Pisces on March 29, 2025.  Broadly speaking, in highly beneficial Dashas, positive transits lead to an icing on the cake situation, while negative transits can dampen the results or even negate them for a while. The effect can be construed accordingly for adverse Dashas, and so on.  It is well-known that Shani is the only Graha who gives added difficulties when He is strong. But a weak malefic is not to be desired because He becomes far more malefic. In oth...

A BRIEF LOOK AT THE TWELVE LAGNAS/ ASCENDANTS IN VEDIC ASTROLOGY

People are often curious at the beginning of their astrological quest, to know something of the various facets pertaining to their ‘chart’; in other words, they wish to evaluate the basic propensities pertaining to their Lagnas and their Rashi/ Lagna Kundalis (Kundalis). Also, the Chandra Lagna itself and Gochar furnish other popular areas of curiosity. Lagna is the sign rising on the Eastern horizon at the time of birth and is occupied by a Rāśi (Rashi)/ Vedic sign. The average duration of a sign rising in the Lagna/ Ascendant is two hours and for this reason the twelve Rāśis cover the twenty-four hours duration of the solar day. ( Basic Jyotiṣa principles can be accessed by clicking this link ) Lagna imbues a person with individuality and therefore denotes the self and the personality of the person. It is the first house or Bhāva of the chart and is the commencement point of any horoscopic study. We cannot forget that in all the divisional charts as well there is a Lagna/...

The Forthcoming Transit/ Gochar of Saturn/ Śani to Libra/ Tulā Rashi on 15th November, 2011

At the present time, when Saturn/ Shani is transiting Virgo/ Kanya Rashi according to the siderial zodiac, we have witnessed many changes, some of them being related to the disturbances in the Prithvi Tattwa, as shown by the earthquake in Japan and the consequent Tsunami. Mercury/ Budh has been debilitated in Pisces/ Meena Rashi at this time but it is equally important to note that Virgo/ Kanya is also a Prithvi Tattwa Rashi or a sign embodying the Earth element. The trine of Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn/ Vrishabh, Kanya and Makar relates to Artha/ financial and monetary element relating to the trine of attainment in work, the accumulation of wealth and the daily work and adversities to be encountered. Shani in Kanya has revealed some of the realities associated with this sign by pressuring the matters associated with it. The chart for the transit of Saturn Implications of the Saturn Transit in Virgo in Virgo is given below:   Saturn is also retrograde and aspects the debilitated M...
